Matty Ashurst Returns to Salford
Experienced back-rower and former Wakefield captain Matty Ashurst is back at Salford on a 2-year deal.
Salford RLFC is delighted to confirm the return of Matty Ashurst, who has signed a 2-year contract with the club.
Matty first wore the Salford shirt in 2012 and spent three seasons with the club. Over a decade later, he returns as one of the most experienced forwards in the game, bringing leadership, grit and a winning mentality to the squad.
His career started at St Helens, where he made his first-team debut in 2009. Fittingly, it came against Salford.
After his first spell here, Matty joined Wakefield Trinity in 2015. He went on to make 230 appearances for the club over ten years and was named in the Super League Dream Team in 2018.
In 2023 he was handed the Wakefield captaincy, and he led the club back to Super League. His final season there ended in style: a League Leaders’ Shield, the 1895 Cup and a try in the Championship Grand Final.
After two seasons with Oldham, Matty now returns to Salford, ready to help build something special.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Matty said:
“It’s been a while since I was here but I’ve never forgot how much this place and team means to the supporters. I’m a different player now and that’ll no doubt show with what I’ll bring. Especially with it being a young squad.”
Matty Ashurst is available to sponsor.
Welcome back, Matty. Rising.Together.
